Our original hand-held BODYSTAT 1500 body composition monitoring unit measures the impedance value of the body at a fixed frequency of 50 KHz only. It has been an enormously successful product and used extensively in various international research projects, some of which have already been published, and have confirmed the unit's accuracy of measurement.
After careful investigation, BODYSTAT was recently selected by a major international drug company for use in their clinical trials in 12 different countries. The BODYSTAT 1500 is being used in the largest cardiac risk study of its kind in the world to measure body composition of 40,000 female employees of the largest chain of retail stores in the UK.
With this success as a background we have now released our new multi-frequency unit measuring over a wide range of frequencies (5 KHz to 500 KHz) to determine intra- and extra-cellular water levels.
A major feature of the BODYSTAT MultiScan 5000 is that is it a totally portable battery-powered unit. This means that measurements can be made without the need for a computer unlike other multi-frequency units. The subject test data can be subsequently downloaded to a PC via an optical link, an important safety feature. An optional extra is to print the stored data directly into a small portable printer at the time of doing the test to simultaneously view the raw data in printed format.
Another main advantage is that the line graph of the change in the impedance values as the frequency increases may be viewed instantly in the Windows program after the data has been downloaded into the PC. Again this is not always possible with other multi-frequency units where data must first be transferred into a user's own spreadsheet or database program.
Furthermore, since we supply a separate battery charger with a spare set of rechargeable batteries, the benefit here is that the MultiScan 5000 unit can be operational all the time. Other multi-frequency units remain out of use for the long duration of time it takes to recharge the unit where rechargeable batteries are built-in as opposed to being removable as is the case with the MultiScan 5000 unit.
